Dear
Families,
It
has been a rainy, but wonderful week. It felt like the rain just kept coming! I
am looking forward to this upcoming weekend and getting some family time. I am
going back to Kansas City (where I’m from) and I love any weekend that I get to
go back home. I hope you guys enjoy your weekends and feel free to contact Mr.
Keenoy or I if you have any questions or concerns.
Paxton Field Day
Our
class is participating in Field Day on May 16th from 10:20 am-12:00
pm. Coach is asking for parent volunteers to run our station Shoe Fling. Our
class will begin field day with this station, so I will help you become
familiar with the game. If you would like to volunteer, coach sent out a
sign-up genius or you may also sign up by going to the Paxton Keeley home page
and clicking the link.
Math
We
finished up with Unit 7 this week. We had two lessons on graphing and
relationships between data points, then reviewed and tested on Thursday. The
tests will be coming home in their Friday Folders.
Writing
We
our continuing our argumentative essay work with traditional vs. year-long
schools. This week, we took a stance based off all our research and created a
plan. We came up with three reasons to support our argument and will write our
body paragraphs based off these supporting ideas. We also wrote our thesis
statement that included what our stance is and our reasons to support it.
Reading
We
finished up our read aloud book titled Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse.
The students really enjoyed learning more about the Dust Bowl and seeing the
character development in the story. The story was written in free verse poetry,
so when we finished the story we explored other books that are also written in
poetry. We are now moving on to our next read aloud book titled A Long Way
from Chicago by Richard Peck. This is a very entertaining story that will
also be a great challenge. The students already are enjoying the humor in the story.
Science
This
week students learned about ecosystems and biomes. Each student partnered up with a peer to create
a visual model of the important parts of an ecosystem. These models included how the geo, hydro,
atmo, and biospheres interact. Students
also added a food web cycle within their ecosystem. I am proud of the teamwork that was shown
during this project. I will score and
return these projects to students next week. A scoring rubric was provided to each student
prior to the project.
