December 10th through 14th
Keenoy Kardinal News
December 14th, 2018
Dear Families,
It was great seeing
everyone at our Winter Open House today.
I hope that everyone enjoys spending extra time with their family over
the Holidays. This will be the last
newsletter shared prior to Winter Break.
Thank you for your support and everything that you do.
Keenoy Kardinal of the Week-Seokhyun O.
Hello, my name is Seokhyun O. I like to read Harry Potter. I like my class and especially my teacher! I live with my mom, dad, and my wonderful sister (Seunghyun). Soon, I will go back to South Korea. I am sad because I'm leaving but also kind of happy. I am happy because I can meet my old friends in South Korea. My favorite sport is basketball. My favorite instrument is the piano.
Next week’s Kardinal of the Week-Ruth C.
Please bring any
pictures or items that you would like to put on our bulletin board that is
located outside of our classroom.
BizTown
An informational
note was sent home on Thursday with specific details about the trip. I also included some information from the
note below. Please have your child bring a lunch to
school or they can purchase a sack lunch from the café the morning of the
trip. Students do not need to bring
drinks because they will use money they earn from their “job” at JA BizTown to
purchase a drink at the restaurant.
Please make sure your child arrives at school
on time. Students need to arrive to
school by the first bell at 8:20 a.m.
Our buses will be leaving promptly at 8:30 a.m. so that we can get there
on time.
3 Buses will be leaving BizTown at 3:00 p.m.,
which means we should be returning to Paxton Keeley by approximately 4:30
p.m. Students will need to be promptly
picked up in the front of Paxton Keeley.
4 Comfortable shoes are a must because students
will be on their feet most of the day.
5 The Junior Achievement of Greater St. Louis
is located at 17339 N. Outer 40 Rd, Chesterfield, MO 63005.
6 Students do not need to bring backpacks to
school, but can bring a book. If
students decide to take a book, they will need to be responsible for bringing
it back to school. Students MAY NOT bring electronics/phones on the bus.
Math
I shared that Topic
3 assessments would be sent home on Monday but had several make up tests
throughout the week. These assessments
are in your child’s Friday folder. I was
SO IMPRESSED with our class average score….87%! Great work!
We are chugging
along in our topic 4 decimal unit. This
week students learned more about ordered pairs on a coordinate grid. Next week students will be learning more
about adding and subtracting decimals.
Reading
Next week students
will take an assessment over the comprehension skills: inferring, context
clues, and predictions. These will be
scored and sent home after the Holiday Break.
We will also start a new read aloud, The Watson’s Go To
Birmingham-1963. The next comprehension
skills that we will be focusing on are main idea and theme.
Writing/Social Studies
Students worked very
hard planning, drafting, editing, and revising their mini social studies
writing project this week. Although
there were some minor challenges getting these reports into the Photo Speak
App, students learned a lot from this process.
I hope that you enjoyed the finished product during our Open House
today. Students will continue learning
about non-fiction writing through the month of January.
Word Study
We did not have time
to go through a word study cycle this week.
Last week’s spelling tests are included in their Friday folder
today. We will pick back up with word
study after Winter Break.
